French Tycoon To Buy Full Tilt Poker?

Friday, October 7th, 2011

The latest news from the Full Tilt Poker front is that they have a buyer. Apparently French business tycoon, Bernard Tapie agreed to buying the company last Friday. Despite all the legal issues, financial problems, and overall problems that have plagued Full Tilt Poker, it is a miracle that they have a buyer.

Full Tilt Poker’s descent into the abyss started back in April, on a special day now referred to as ‘Black Friday’. It got to the point where player accounts were frozen, players as well as pro players starting suing, Full Tilt Poker lost their licensing along with many loyal players, and things were looking very bleak for the online poker site.

The French buyer has agreed to buy the poker site company on the condition that they settle their legal problems with the U.S, and do so in good standing. That’s where it gets tricky.

If Full Tilt Poker can pull off Tapie’s demands, then the deal will go through. Once the deal goes through, that’s when players can really rejoice, because a plan will be put into action to pay back all the players that were stiffed out of their player accounts because of Black Friday. Hopefully Full Tilt Poker’s luck is changing, because for the first time in months, they have good news.

New French Gambling Law chases away Playtech

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

With the new French government in place, the online gambling industry has taken a hit. French online gambling is no longer permitted in the country without a license to operate there. Major gaming companies have pursued licensing, while others have decided to pull out of the French market. Well known gambling operator throughout the UK and Europe, William Hill is unfortunately withdrawing its operations in France. Along with William Hill, all Playtech online casinos have also followed along as well.

Governments across the globe are trying to take on more control of how online casinos operate in their country. The Italians for example offer licenses to a select few online casino operators. The French have actually modeled their system after the Italian’s system. One of the reasons for licensing is that governments want to ensure that there is player protection for its citizens. Unfortunately, it’s costing the online gambling industry, and limiting where players can legally play.

Licensing will legally allow French citizens to play on websites that have attained it, but it will not prevent French players from going to unlicensed operators, which they still have the option of doing. With licensing comes a strict set of rules, so online casinos have pulled out of the French market for the time being and will try to make up for their losses by focusing on other countries in Europe where they can gain profit.

PartyGaming is back in France!

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

After France changed it’s gambling laws, PartyGaming was contemplating if it was worth fighting for a license to allow their French customers to play at their website. It seems they thought so after all, as they have just won the right to operate in France, thanks to the country’s legal body that is responsible for online gambling websites.

Next month, the French market will fully open up to license holders. Since PartyGaming already owns the domain name www.partypoker.fr, they will be going live around when the French market is expected to open.

Because of the new French government, many large online casinos have been forced to take their business elsewhere for fear of prosecution, as many operators do not have a gambling license. The French market is now only open to online gambling websites that hold valid gambling licenses.

As a top ranking online gambling website, it comes as no surprise that PartyGaming got its license. Offering many gaming experiences under it’s umbrella, PartyGaming will most likely shoot to the top spot for best gambling website in France once the market opens.

In recent months, PartyGaming has strategically formed partnerships with three other gambling companies that operate in France. With the shared player pool of all companies, PartyGaming will most likely be the number gambling website in France by next year.
