Carbon Poker gets hot promoter

Friday, February 11th, 2011

It really doesn’t matter what you’re selling, everyone knows that having an attractive woman promote your product works wonders and that’s just what online poker site Carbon Poker has done by signing Tina Wallman.

The official spokes model for Carbon Poker is known as the Queen of Hearts and the 30-year-old is no stranger to using her good looks and charm to promoting goods and services. This looker hails from the Land Down Under and her photos have appeared in a different magazines and other venues before she embarked on her online gambling promotion career.

Part of the 30-year-old’s job will be to help promote the site which hopes to attract American visitors who are restricted from playing online poker games because of the UIGEA ruling. She has had an interesting career in promotions including the above-mentioned accolades as well as a stint as Zoo Beach Weeklys Girl of the Year in 2007.

Wallman also has a cheeky side she demonstrated in an interview recently. When asked how online poker and sex are related she replied bluffing was very similar to faking it, and comments like that have industry insiders predicting she’ll have a great career promoting online gambling.

Devilfish Poker Looking Ahead to 2011

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

While you might know the name Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, you might not be familiar with his online poker company. Dave is the UK poker player who had earnings of over $5.8 million. So when the news was released in 2005 to much fanfare that he was starting an online poker site, Devilfish Poker, people began expecting big things. So far those things haven’t materialized but the company is expecting a better year in 2011.

However, there was soon trouble. The Kahnawake licensed site didn’t get the UK’s proper approval and the site was restricted from advertising to its niche market. Although the customer base finally grew to 5,000 players in 12 months, the firm had some real economic trouble and lost over £600,000 in 2009 and more than £2m in 2010.

Officials for the company offered several reasons including a troubled financial climate as well as the growing tendency in the online poker market for mergers where bigger firms incorporated smaller ones.

Still, the CEO Paul Barnes is looking forward to the new year being much better for the company. He said recently that the brand has more of a market share now and that he believes it is in a better position to capitalize on the market in general.

If you have never tried a tournament it is a good idea to play in a few smaller tourneys or even some play money ones so that you get a feel for it before playing in a bigger game!

Improve Your Poker Skills Online

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

There are always pros and cons to playing online poker versus playing in a real casino with real players. And probably every poker player will tell you that while there is no comparison to playing poker with real players sitting across from you (after all, Poker is about reading other players AND your cards), there are some real benefits to playing online, specifically to help you improve certain skills.

While you won’t really be able to improve your ability read other players that much, playing online poker can help you improve several other skills like learning how to play the different variations of poker. This will not only help you get a good feel for the different games but will also improve your ability to recognize good, playable hands in comparison to other players or the dealer.

Playing online will also help you test out the waters of the more tricky games like Texas Hold’em poker. Online you can practice to your heart’s content and never be embarrassed at the way you are playing. You can try out different strategies without the in-person intimidation of being at a live poker table.

Playing online poker can also help you practice playing according to the stacks of chips at the table. This is about figuring out the math and how you can effectively leverage your chips to win against all the other players’ chips at the table. If you have the largest chip stack out of everyone, there are different strategies to play then if you had a smaller stack.

So while the debate about which forum is better there is one thing for certain, the only way to learn to play poker is to practice, practice, practice – and the best way to get in the most practice is playing online! There are even free poker tables you can try your hand at online if you’re a total beginner or don’t want to waste your money.
